Six star products

From north to south and east to west, six regions of the hinterland are highlighted in a gourmet approach.

In each of these regions, a particular culinary product has been chosen to bring the initiatives together.
Some of these products are emblematic of Tunisia, such as olives and their oil – a speciality of the central regions and the Dahar mountains (in the south-east) – or harissa – a chilli-based condiment speciality of the Cap Bon peninsula.

What do you know about Tunisian gastronomy?

Wine, dates and octopus

Some products are more unexpected, such as octopus, which is very popular in the Kerkennah Islands, or cheeses, which come in many forms in the north-western regions.

The two other flagship products are dates – a treasure from the oases of the south-west – and wine, as new estates in several northern regions have developed remarkable vintages in recent years.
This project, steered by German cooperation and supported by the European Union, is a further step towards establishing sustainable tourism.
